Apple pie baked beans put a bit of a twist on traditional baked beans and truthfully, it’s a match made in BBQ-side heaven! And it’s super easy too!
These apple pie baked beans have only 4 ingredients and hardly any prep. You can pop them in an oven or on your smoker or grill while other things are poppin’. Too easy not to try it.
If you really want to jazz it up, you can add:
- chopped bell pepper
- chopped onion
- jalapeno slices
- bacon on top
- minced garlic
- crushed seeds, like cumin or mustard
I haven’t tried this yet, but I’m thinking cherry pie filling or peach pie filling would be absolutely delicious too… If you try that out, let me know!

Apple Pie Baked Beans
Ingredients
- 16 ounce no sugar added apple pie filling
- 55 ounce can Bush's original baked beans or Showboat
- ½ cup favorite BBQ sauce
- 2 tablespoons favorite BBQ rub/seasoning plus extra for topping
Instructions
-
Heat your oven, grill or smoker to about 325°.
-
Empty the pie filling in an aluminum pan OR 13×9 baking dish, plus 2 tablespoons of the BBQ seasoning and BBQ sauce.
Very gently, using an immersion blender, blend up the apples but not entirely. You don't want apple puree, you just want to loosen it a little bit. If you don't have an immersion blender, place into a food processor or blender and pulse for a few seconds.
-
Add the canned baked beans and any other jazzy additions, if you're using them, as listed in the notes. Stir to combine.
-
Place in your preheated oven, grill or smoker and cook for 1.5 hours.

Trying for the first time with apple pie filling. I just used the regular kind with sugar since I do put in brown sugar in my beans. So just cut out the brown sugar. I usually make my baked beans with pineapple or peach.
I made these beans when I first seen on Facebook, everyone loved them, I will be making them for the 4th of July.
What a fun recipe to make. Goes great with hot dog burnt ends smothered in barbecue sauce. Yummy.
Phillyhoma here in Lawton serves these as a side option. I have had them at least once a week. So very good.
I am making them for the family for Thanksgiving
Making it today and I just picked up Great Value no sugar added apple pie filling. 5g of sugar at Walmart. It’s pretty good. Can’t wait to try these this evening!!!
No sugar added pie filling is a thing? I don’t see it at Publix..
It is! The brand that I buy is “Bake Good”. Also, a couple of years ago I bought the Wal-Mart brand that was no sugar added, but I haven’t seen it on the shelf lately.
Unbelievable. Everyone at thr cottage loved them and I will be making them again for 4th of July! Did the Famous Dave’s spit fire sauce and it gave it some fun heat.
