Dutch oven bourbon meatballs is a recipe that’s been floating around my house for a long time. I guess that’s why I never really thought about posting it.
I like to gather up the wifie, the dog, and a bottle or two of wine and put these on the fire (not the wife and dog, just the meatballs). You don’t have to cook it on a fire, a stove works just fine. I haven’t tried it myself, but I would bet you could pop these in the slow cooker too.
DUTCH OVEN BOURBON MEATBALLS
MEATBALL INGREDIENTS
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 lbs ground beef, 80/20
3/4 cup bread crumbs
2 eggs
oil for browning
SAUCE INGREDIENTS
Juice of 1 lemon
2 tablespoons hot sauce, your favorite
1/4 cup Bourbon
12 ounce jar of chili sauce
12 ounce jar grape jelly
For the meat: Mix meat, onions, spices, bread crumbs, and eggs. Get em’ good and combined but don’t work the daylights out of it. Form into golf-sized meat balls.
Mix all the sauce ingredients together and set aside.
Brown the meatballs in the dutch oven. When they’re all brown pour the sauce over the meatballs. Put the lid on it and simmer until done,
30-45 minutes, depending on the size of your balls.
