Pressure Cooker Beef Tips

Guys, do you love a good quickie? Food I mean. Yeah, I know you do. Do you love delicious tender meat? Uh huh. Do you love gravy?  I hear you, settle down, settle down! I do too and this makes THE. BEST. GRAVY.

Get your pressure cookers out folks! In about 45 minutes, start to finsh, you’ll be smashing your face into this and won’t even feel bad about it. Dooo it!

PRESSURE COOKER BEEF TIPS

INGREDIENTS

2 lbs beef cut into cubes
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
2 cloves garlic, minced
butter or oil to sauté vegetables
1 can beef consommé minus 1/4 cup
1/4 cup red wine
1 onion chopped
1 bell pepper chopped

DIRECTIONS

Add first 6 ingredients in a ziplock bag and shake to coat well.  Brown meat in a little oil. You may have to do this in batches – you don’t want to crowd your meat.  Remove to a plate when done.

Add butter and sauté the vegetables.  When softened, add garlic for a minute or two. Take your red wine and deglaze the pan with the vegetables still in it. Remove 1/4 cup of the consommé and put the remainder in the pot.

Add the meat, juices and all to your pressure cooker.  Pressure on high for 25 minutes and let the pressure come down naturally.  When that’s done remove the lid and simmer to preferred thickness. Serve over rice, polenta, mashed potatoes or grits. Enjoy!

** Note: If you visit my youtube page, you’ll see how popular this is.  I get quite a bit of questions and comments about the wine thing. You’ll remove 1/4 of the consommé and use wine in place of that.  If you don’t like wine or don’t have it lying around, don’t worry about it.  Just use the whole can of consommé.  If you have white wine, do it.  It’s not rocket surgery, just food.

  1. This was absolutely delish! I didn’t have all the makings for my beef stew so I looked for something else. What a great find. I did use carrots instead of pepper, all broth and for the finish a little cornstarch to thicken. Thank you, this will be a regular!

  2. It’s “not rocket surgery”???? 🤓 Rocket science or brain surgery I’ve heard of, but that’s a new one! 😂

  3. I made this yesterday. I added some diced carrots and sliced baby Bella mushrooms. It was delicious! Will definitely be making it again!

  4. Came out very thin. May have used too much broth. Anyway, I just used gravy I had on hand, spooned ingredients into the gravy and served over rice. Delicious. I needed a win. Had 2 Pot fails in a row. Lol. Ty!

  5. This looks amazing. I am planning on trying this in a few days but need to increase the amounts due to the number of people I am serving. Do I need to adjust the pressure cooking time?

  6. For some reason this recipe will not save to pinterest. When you try to save the screen goes black on the pinterest site and stays that way.

  7. My husband can’t stop raving about this. Will be our number 1 go to meal. I served it over egg noodles. Thank you for sharing!

  8. I keep reading about pressure cookers and Insta Pots and all of the wonderful recipes that are being created, including this fabulous recipe, that looks absolutely delicious! Thanks so much for sharing over at Foodie Friday! Hope you have a good evening!

  9. I made this today….SO GOOD!! Hubby put half the tri-tip in the crock pot and I used the Instant Pot for the other half…your recipe is hands-down better than the crock pot ‘tips in every way. Thanks!

    1. Nice! Never tried it in the crock pot and was planning on doing that soon. I won’t bother now. Thanks for the feedback V!

    1. While I have not made this particular recipe in my slow cooker, (I may test this soon), I don’t see why you couldn’t. My slow cooker has a browning function, you’ll need to brown the chunks, for sure, either in a pan or your slow cooker if it has that feature. I would say low 6-8 hours. You may, because like I said I haven’t made this, have to thicken it in the end with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of water,
or throw in 1 tablespoon of tapioca pearls at the beginning with the other ingredients.

Helen, if you give this a whirl in your crockpot I would LOVE to hear about it! And I’ll report back to you when I try it.

    1. Yes, absolutely, no problem Sally. I’ve done that and it doesn’t change the deliciousness at all!

      1. Made your beef tips, doubled the recipe and it was delicious. Served over healthy egg noodles. Hubby loved it and said it’s a favorite. Thanks for sharing. I tried to find and sav3 it on Pinterest but cannot find it is it under another name?

  10. I am certainly saving this one for later on…I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Santa finds me worthy of an Instant Pot this year! Thanks for sharing on Fiesta Friday! – Faith, Hope, Love, & Luck – Colleen

  12. Oh my. I thought I would NEVER say this about anything other than homemade gravy, you know like Granny or Momma used to make, BUT……… this recipe is OFF THE CHAIN GOOD.

  13. I must confess I’ve never used a pressure cooker, Jaxx, but your recipe and instructions make me think it might be something I need to try! Your Beef stew looks absolutely delicious, and I like that you can have comfort food like this so easily in just 45 minutes. Thank you for sharing with us at Hearth and Soul.

  14. We bought an Instant Pot recently and we love it! Meat comes out incredibly tender. I’m sure these beef tips would be no exception. Thanks for sharing with Creatively Crafty #ccbg 🙂

    1. I have used chuck roast, sirloin roast, beef stew meat but never brisket. I haven’t done brisket but I don’t see why not. You may find after time, you might have to put it on longer. If that’s the case, I would pressure additionally in 5 minute increments, then test for tenderness again.
If you give it a whirl please let me know how it worked for you. I love brisket.

  15. I’ve never used a pressure cooker as I’m more into slow cooking. This recipe sounds delicious though and thanks for sharing it and your tips with us at #overthemoon link party. I’ve pinned and shared.

    1. I have never tried it in the slow cooker, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work in there.
